The Ballon d'Or rankings are out, and we finally know that Messi has won it this year again. It might be the year when the former Blaugrana faced his toughest competition. Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mohamed Salah were all equally deserving winners. However, the ever-elusive international trophy that Messi was chasing since his debut helped him seal the deal for the award.
Messi winning the award doesn't take away the shine from the other competitors' achievements, however. They were all just as good as the Argentinean forward. So, we at Esports Times decided to rank the players based on their FIFA 22 OVR ratings.
Here are the top 5 ranked based on their FIFA 22 OVR ratings.
The lowest of the top 5 based on their FIFA ratings is Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. Jorginho finished third in the Ballon d'Or rankings, courtesy of his Champions League and Euro wins. Jorginho's ratings is 85.
4) Karim Benzema
Real Madrid's Benzema keeps his Ballon d'Or's fourth place in the FIFA ratings as well. Benzema won the UEFA Nations League with France and reached the semifinals of the Champions League with Los Blancos. His overall rating is 89.
3) N'Golo Kante
Another Chelsea midfielder on the list is Kante. The French midfielder won the Nations League with his country and the Champions League with his club. His overall rating is 90.
2) Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski, like in the Ballon d'Or rankings, falls short by a small margin again. The Polish forward won the Bundesliga with his club Bayern Munich. His overall rating is 92.
1) Lionel Messi
You already knew Messi would still be on top, didn't you? Messi failed to win anything with his then club Barcelona last season. However, he did win the Copa America to hand him an upper edge in the Ballon d'Or rankings. His overall rating is 93.
