With its recent launch, New World by Amazon Games Orange County is now officially on Steam.


New World is an open-world MMO filled with danger and opportunity where you'll forge a new destiny for yourself as an adventurer shipwrecked on the supernatural island of Aeternum. Endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge await you among the island's wilderness and ruins. Channel supernatural forces or wield deadly weapons in a classless, real-time combat system, and fight alone, with a small team, or in massed armies for PvE and PvP battles—the choices are all yours.


Players can join one of three factions (Marauders, Syndicate, or Covenant), use node resources, create things, take control of villages, quest, explore the environment, or battle other players or creatures.
Because there are no auto-locked targeting attacks in the game, aiming requires a steady hand.


With each level, the hostile mobs' offensive behavior skill sets get more complex and powerful, requiring the player to counter with timed attacks, dodges, weapon blocks, retreats, or crawling stealth to save mana, stamina, and health.


Bow, hammer, hatchet, fire staff, life staff, musket, spear, sword/shield, and ice gauntlet are presently available in the weapon skill tree.


Personal attribute abilities are leveled up by the character. As the skill level of an attribute improves, the returns scale shrinks. Weapon and trade skills are also leveled up for the player's character. "Crafting" (weaponsmithing, armoring, engineering, jewel crafting, arcana, cookery, and furnishing) and "refining" (smelting, woodworking, leather working, weaving, and stone cutting) are the three kinds of trade skills (logging, mining, harvesting, and tracking and skinning).


A "camping" talent is also available (wilderness survival).


There are three quick travel options, and while there are no fast speed mounts, a set of abilities enabling intermittent forward speed increases is available. Most ambient obstacles may be dodged or climbed, and the player can utilize the life staff to span huge aerial expanses.


Gold coins are the lifeblood of the economy. The player can sell undesirable things to other players through a trader in return for gold coins, "salvage" (dismantle) the items for resources, throw the item on the unsecured ground, or make a direct transfer to another player. Characters do not lose stuff when they die, but the player's items are damaged with each combat encounter, usage, or death. Fix goods and gold coins can be used to repair the damage.


To get aesthetic and functional benefits, the player can acquire a personal home and build furniture, as well as a method of rapid transport to the colony site.


The game mechanisms allow for both questing and PvP fighting. Players can choose whether to establish the "flagged-state," which activates after leaving the settlement and then a cooldown time, before leaving a safe-zone settlement.
